Decent restaurant on the Costa Blanca

We were invited for a meal by a couple of friends. They'd chosen a restaurant we hadn’t tried before so we were looking forward to it. The restaurant is situated in the centre of a tiny inland village of the Costa Blanca called Parcent - well off the beaten track, yet not too far from the tourist centres of Calpe, Moraira and Benidorm. I have an affinity for Parcent - it’s where I held my first book signing session - so it had special significance for me. The area is stunning - absolutely beautiful, surrounded by tree-laden mountains, vineyards, citrus groves, and olive groves. In spring the air smells like wine. The Restaurant, Casa Carrascal, turned out to be well laid out and very welcoming. Apparently it used to be a couple of village houses - but had been knocked together and restored. The resulting decór was effective, very comfortable. It’s run by a British couple, so no language problems, thank you very much. It has an exciting menu which changes on a weekly basis. The cost of the meal, no matter what you choose, is 19:50 Euros for a 3 course meal plus extra tapa as a starter, plus 1/2 bottle of decent wine, per head. How can this be bad? The food and service were excellent. I was pleasantly surprised. The only drawback is they have no car-park. We had to park in the narrow streets of the winding village, but it wasn’t such a problem. I expected the streets to be crammed, but no such thing. We merely had to walk a short distance to enjoy the excellence of the restaurant. Apparently the Casa is a guest house too, and can arrange walking holidays, gourmet breaks, and wine tasting trips. A good deal all round! |
